On Wednesday, April 21, 2021, LexYouth successfully hosted the first session of its teacher training series program. Almost 30 youth teachers and more than 20 youth guests have registered and attended the online event through Zoom.
For this first session, the training topic is focusing on Communications. Our speaker is Nathaniel Braswell, a nationally ranked debater who has won the 1st place in various national debate and public speaking competitions. Nathaniel gave a great presentation on communication topics that are tailored towards LexYouth teachers, covering communication needs between Teacher to Student/Parents and Teacher to LexYouth organization.
After the presentation, our LexYouth teachers joined breakout rooms by the subject they are teaching to discuss the training topic, and share their teaching experiences.
CALex and LexYouth staff also took this opportunity and made a short introduction to our Youth teachers about our parent organization CALex and its impressive community outreach efforts. We also introduced the members of our LexYouth Teacher Leadership teams, who are to represent all teachers and help LexYouth staff better serve our youth teachers.
This training session is the first session of our teacher training program. Our next training session is scheduled on May 19th Wednesday 8-9pm EST time.
We have developed the training series with 8 monthly sessions to cover topics including communication, presentation, teaching skills, and scheduling. The training is sponsored and developed by Diyi Holdings Company (Diyi Boston), a premier educational company dedicated to providing excellent academic support to students grades 3-12. You can find more about the company and its Reading & Writing, Debate & Public Speaking, and Math programs at https://diyiboston.com.
LexYouth Learning Program
LexYouth Learning Program is a non-profit program sponsored by CALex. The goals are to help our youth teachers grow and give back to communities, and to offer teachers the skills and experiences to become future leaders.
Since launching the program on December 1, 2020, it now has more than 40 active teachers tutoring in various subjects, including Special Needs, Chess, Arts, Music, Math, English, Spanish, Computer Science, and Chinese. This program has received great positive feedback from both teachers and students.
Our next step is to expand the program further. We are actively looking for youth teachers from all backgrounds to expand the program beyond Lexington and the Chinese American community. We will also collaborate with other non-profit organizations, matching our talented youth teachers with students who need tutoring and guidance.
If you are a middle/high school/college student looking for challenges and opportunities to grow leadership skills, we welcome you to find out more about our program and consider joining us in serving the community.
