{"id":9,"date":"2017-10-08T03:05:25","date_gmt":"2017-10-08T03:05:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/box5137.temp.domains\/~calexmao\/?page_id=9"},"modified":"2018-03-16T01:16:54","modified_gmt":"2018-03-16T01:16:54","slug":"about_h3361","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/calexma.org\/en\/archives\/about_h3361\/","title":{"rendered":"About H.3361"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>What is H.3361\uff1f<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Massachusetts State Representative Tackey Chan proposed <a href=\"https:\/\/malegislature.gov\/Bills\/190\/H3361\">Bill H.3361<\/a> in January, 2017.<\/li>\n<li>It requires \u201call state agencies, [and] quasi-state agencies\u201d to identify Asian American in \u201call data collected as part any and all types of data collection, reporting or verification.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>It requires the reporting of disaggregated data on the five largest Asian American ethnic groups\u00a0including Chinese, Indian, \u201cOther Asian\u201d, Vietnamese and Korean according to the 2010 U.S. Census.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Why is H.3361 a BAD Bill\uff1f<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>By singling out Asian Americans for government scrutiny, it violates \u201cequal protection of the laws\u201d of the 14th Amendment of the Constitution.<\/li>\n<li>It reinforces a stereotype that Asian Americans are perpetual foreigners. Members of this minority group are permanently labeled with his\/her ANCESTOR&#8217;s country of origin even if they are American citizens.<\/li>\n<li>Collecting the data seriously undermines an individual\u2019s privacy. Potential misuse of such data to make discriminatory policies against a specific ethnic group would be even more disastrous.<\/li>\n<li>It is a wrong solution and a confusing system to implement.
