Penguin Coding School was started in the fall of 2016 by a Lexington MA dad to turn kids onto the joys of coding. We have developed an unique curriculum that emphasizes the joys of creation as the motivation for learning. We believe coding is a lifelong creative endeavor, and a skill that is becoming increasingly necessary to be a productive citizen in the 21st century.

We offer 3 semesters of instruction during the school year (fall, winter, spring) and a summer session. Students learn how to make things in class – websites, games, apps and machine learning research projects.

There are Scratch classes for early elementary students, HTML/Javascript classes for students in grades 4-8 and Python and Java classes for high school students and advanced middle school students.

Daily Challenge with Po-Shen Loh(https://daily.poshenloh.com) is a complete learning experience, containing interactive videos exclusively taught by Po-Shen Loh himself, with embedded questions that retain attention, as well as novel practice problems, exams, and emailed score reports, with Q&A forum support from our teaching assistant team. It can be used as a daily 45-minute math course to introduce a new challenging mathematical thinking world.

The course is specially created for 4-8th graders with a solid foundation in Pre-Algebra. If the student did not explore much math outside of the standard curriculum, don’t worry. Through the original teaching style that develops creative thinking, students will discover the rich math world that they can build from their foundation.

We intentionally designed the course to teach students how to THINK instead of FOLLOW, so problems are presented before any teaching is given. The course sequence is designed to provide systematic coverage of concepts when taken in order. Module 0 is a sampler of the 5 main areas of mathematics. Module 1 lays a foundation for Algebra, and the following modules rapidly cover the fundamental math competition tools in one of the 5 areas of algebra, combinatorics, geometry, number theory, and probability. You can take it as a stand-alone course. Students will learn different new math concepts in the process of solving problems.

The New Legacy Cultural Center (NLCC) — Lexington, is a registered non-political non-profit cultural and educational organization, dedicated to deepening the understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity in the community.

NLCC offers K-8 Mandarin classes, offering a curriculum emphasizes trainings composed of speaking, writing, reading, and comprehension. Most of the instructors are professionally trained in teaching Chinese as a second language. In addition to classes on Saturday afternoons, “Mandarin Daily Meetup” activity is also offered throughout the weekdays to enhance the students’ Chinese communication skills.
